Hatikvah International Academy Charter School opened its doors in September of 2010 as a partial-immersion Hebrew language and culture study charter public school incorporating the International Baccalaureate program approach. Hatikvah’s mission is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young citizens by promoting intercultural understanding and respect while also stressing academic excellence. Our first year began with two full day kindergarten classes, two first grade classes and one second grade class serving a total of 108 students with two professional staff in each classroom including at least one being a New Jersey certified teacher. We will add a grade each year and eventually grow to serve a total of 372 students in grades K-8.

Hatikvah is a tuition free public school and accepts students of all backgrounds.

Hatikvah’s vision is to help our children develop the creativity, innovation, and skills necessary needed to excel in today’s compelling world and provide our children with the opportunity to
be bi-lingual.

In addition to the New Jersey Core Curriculum, Hatikvah will utilize the International Baccalaureate curricular framework which employs inquiry-based lessons and holistic learning, where concepts are examined across the range of traditional subjects. This method of learning challenges students to cultivate creativity and develop the innovators and risk takers. In this way students are prepared for higher education while also developing a sense of self, culture and identity.

Our students will also study Hebrew language and culture. Research shows a study of a foreign language at an early age correlates with higher academic achievement and SAT test scores as well as increased cognitive development and problem-solving abilities.

The culmination of this unique combination of in-depth study of a foreign language and the International Baccalaureate curriculum is an education sought by the world’s leading education institutions.
